Poem for tomorrow’s dead fish for World Poetry Day: Tomorrow's dead fish

Tomorrow when fishermen

pull up the net, they’ll quickly toss

the sad fish back to the ocean.

But tonight, he is swimming with glee

alongside his parents and siblings.

What’s that? It is beautiful.

Dangling in the near distance,

shimmering white strings dance.

How can he ignore the Sirens call?

He accepts the invitation,

swimming in and out

of each laced portal hole.

He is getting tired as the plastic tightens around his throat.

And as he looks up toward the distorted sky through the water,

He doesn’t know who to blame.
